Suffolk Snapshots
This series is aimed at genealogists and local historians interested in the villages of eastern Suffolk. Each book brings together data from tithe apportionments and maps, the census records of 1841 and parish registers for a specific parish to form a detailed picture of village life in rural Suffolk in the 1840’s. This is a time period of considerable interest, when many agricultural communities were at their peak population and new industrial areas were starting to build up. In many cases you can identify precisely where your ancestors lived and who were their neighbours and landlords.
Each book contains a full name index, a set of detailed tithe maps, summary maps showing the main landowners and land usage, and an index to the field names identified in the tithes. The tithe apportionments are cross-referenced to the detailed maps to aid in finding each specific plot. Where possible, the census locations have been identified and cross-referenced to the tithe plot numbers.
